Description

The Rioja growing region

Reserva Tempranillo is grown in one of the most important wine-growing regions of Rioja – Cernicero. Located on the Ebro River, Rioja consists of the sub-regions Rioja Oriental. Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta. The grape variety Tempranillo occupies more than 60% of the total cultivated area. Mostly red wines are produced, but also white or rosé wines are very popular.

The taste of Rioja wine

The Reserva Tempranillo impresses with very complex and intense aromas. One can note dark fruits as well as roasted aromas. The wine has an alcohol content of 14%.

The winery of the Reserva

The traditional Bodega Tritium relies on very nutrient-rich soils for its vineyards. The winery has been owned by the winemaking family for five generations. The bodega places particular emphasis on preserving and protecting the natural environment of the vineyards. Instead of building a new wine cellar, the family decided to restore a cellar that is steeped in history and dates back to the 16th century. Bodega Tritium relies on the use of native yeast and enzymes. This results in wines of very individual character.

The production of the red wine

The Reserva is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes. These were harvested from vines that are more than 50 years old. To develop its full aroma, the wine is aged in oak barrels for a full 18 months.

The Tempranillo Grape Variety

Tempranillo is the most important grape variety in Spain. The name is derived from the Spanish word “Temprano” – early. This is because the grape variety ripens very early due to its small grape size. In the Tempranillo grape variety, the white Albillo Mayor grape variety and the red Benedicto variety were crossed. This results in wines that are both expressive and fruity. With aging in wooden barrels, the wine can develop in the best possible way. The wines are very soft and have mild tannins, so unlike Cabernets, they can be drunk young. Want to know more about the grape variety? Have a look here.
