On a wine tour through Greece
As most of you know, I was on a wine tour in Greece with a group over the past few weeks and I would like to share a few impressions of the wonderful trip with you.
Athens and Tinos
On the Friday after our arrival we visited a vinotheque near Athens, Fine Wine. Here Sofia let us try a cross-section of wines from all over the country during a great wine tasting. We really enjoyed enjoying the Greek wines in the old town of Athens below the Acropolis.
On Saturday we visited the Nikolou winery and it felt like we had been accepted into the family and the winemaking family didn’t want to leave us at all. Here we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with very good wine and homemade food in the courtyard of the winery. The wines of the winery are award-winning and exceptional, my favorite is the orange wine and I hope that I will soon be able to offer their wines in the shop in Germany.
On Sunday we were guests at the Ballis Winery on Tinos. Here we were able to visit a wine cellar from the 14th century and during the wine tasting on the terrace you have a particularly beautiful view of the sea and the island. Christos let us try wines that were only bottled a few days ago and he started the season earlier just for us. Unfortunately, the wines are not available in Germany, where only small quantities are produced in a largely manual process. That’s why we definitely have to come back to Tinos.
Paros and Santorini
On Monday we took the ferry to Paros, where we visited the Moraitis winery and tasted their wines. After strolling through the picturesque streets of Naoussa, we enjoyed a selection of wines there, accompanied by local cheese and sausage specialties, tomatoes and olives. It was particularly exciting to try the natural wine, which is produced unfiltered and in an amphora without the addition of sulfites.
After we had a “Beach Day” we went on to Santorini by ship.
Our first wine tasting in Santorini on Wednesday was at the Santo Wines cooperative. The excellent wine and the view of the caldera at sunset was an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed a 4 course meal with accompanying wine, even if all other wine tastings were also a special experience, but this was definitely our highlight.
On Thursday we ended up visiting Domaine Sigalas on Santorini. The winery is located below the picturesque town of Oia. There we enjoyed the great wine in the middle of the grapevines and were also spoiled here with local accompanying delicacies. Here, too, an expert sommelier served us the wines and answered all of our questions.
It was a wonderful journey with many impressions and wonderful people.
