Wine in Moderation: Responsibility Meets Pleasure
We are delighted to announce that we are now proud members of the “Wine in Moderation” initiative. This step reflects our deep commitment to a responsible and sustainable wine culture. In this blog post, we want to delve deeper into the significance of this membership and explain why it is so important to us and our community.
What is Wine in Moderation?
“Wine in Moderation” is a global initiative launched in 2008 by the European wine sector to reduce harmful wine consumption and promote moderation in wine enjoyment.
Managed by the WiM Association, the program targets wine producers and professionals, providing them with the tools and information to present and serve wine responsibly.
The vision of the program is to create a sustainable wine culture that promotes both wine consumers and sustainable wine culture. “Wine in Moderation” places great emphasis on scientifically based information and works closely with the Wine Information Council website.
The ultimate goal is to become a movement that promotes respect for wine as a cultural asset and inspires people to enjoy wine responsibly.
Why did we join Wine in Moderation?
Some might argue that it seems contradictory for a wine seller to promote responsible alcohol consumption. After all, one might think that irrational consumption benefits sales figures. However, we clearly oppose this view. Our decision to join this initiative was not made overnight. As wine sellers, we have a responsibility to our community and our customers. We have experienced the positive aspects of wine – how it brings communities together, complements meals, and celebrates special occasions. But we are also aware of the potential risks associated with excessive consumption.
Through our membership in Wine in Moderation, we aim to:
- Raise awareness: It’s important to understand the risks of excessive alcohol consumption. We want to ensure that our customers have the right information to make informed decisions.
- Celebrate the culture of wine: Wine is more than just a drink. It’s an experience, an art form, and an important part of our culture. We want to highlight and celebrate these aspects of wine.
Our Commitment to the Future
As a member of Wine in Moderation, it is our duty to actively spread the message of the initiative. This means not only informing our customers about moderate wine consumption but also implementing the principles of the initiative in our daily work and products.
In addition to the points mentioned above, we plan to:
Continue organizing events: From wine tastings to wine tours, we want to offer events that put the culture of wine in the foreground while also informing about responsible consumption.
In conclusion, we want to emphasize how proud and excited we are to be part of this important initiative. We firmly believe that through education, awareness, and commitment, a more sustainable and responsible wine culture can be promoted. We invite you to join us on this journey and work together for a better wine future.
With Measure and Style: Moderate Wine Enjoyment
Wine is more than just a drink; it is a cultural asset that is enjoyed in good company, with friends or family. But what does it mean to enjoy wine “moderately”?
- Conscious decision: Consider whether and what you want to drink.
- Conscious enjoyment: Combine wine with meals and drink a glass of water with it. Knowing the origin of the wine enhances the enjoyment and appreciation of the product.
- Conscious renunciation: Enjoy wine and sparkling wine with measure and style. Avoid binge drinking, alcohol consumption during pregnancy, or at too young an age.
Serving units and serving sizes: The typical serving sizes vary by country, with 100 ml, 125 ml, and 175 ml being the most common for still, dry wines. It is important to note that portion sizes and serving sizes are defined differently from country to country.
Tip: Never pour to the brim. A glass that is filled correctly (~100 ml) allows the aroma of the wine to unfold better and thus offers a perfect drinking experience.
Responsible Wine Enjoyment is Close to Our Hearts
At wine-love, we advocate moderate and responsible wine enjoyment. It is important to us to preserve the culture and tradition of wine while also focusing on the health and well-being of our customers. We warmly invite you to learn more on the Wine in Moderation website. If you, like us, stand behind this important message, you might even consider becoming a member of this significant initiative. Together, we can promote a sustainable and healthy wine culture.
