Wine Journey through Greece – September 2023
Experiencing the Greek wine world: Our one-week wine journey from September 8 to 14, 2023, led us through the picturesque landscapes of Athens, Syros, Paros, and Santorini.
With a small group, we explored several handpicked wineries and a wine shop, delving into the fascinating world of Greek wines and experiencing the unique blend of tradition and innovation. Join us on this unforgettable journey, where each bottle told its own story, revealing the diversity of Greek terroirs.
08. – 09. September: Athens
Our first stop in ancient Athens was Fine Wine, a charming wine shop that captures the essence of Greek wine diversity. Here, surrounded by the rich aromas of the landscape, we explored exquisite wines from all corners of the country. Accompanied by delightful snacks, our palates embarked on a culinary journey that set the stage for a week full of wine adventures.
On the second day of our stay in the historic metropolis, the Nikolou Winery was on our agenda. Amidst the majestic vineyards, we were treated to an informative tour of the winery and its production facilities. The passion and dedication of the winemakers were palpable in every corner. The highlight of the evening unfolded in the winery’s courtyard, where we enjoyed excellent wines and an impressive buffet in an idyllic atmosphere. An evening that not only conquered our palates but also captured the hearts of our group, bringing the magic of Greek wine to life.
10. – 11. September: Syros
Our first evening on the island of Syros bestowed upon us a touch of culinary heaven. In a picturesque setting, we were welcomed by Dr. Wine, an emerging wine cellar that indulged us with a refined 7-course menu and six accompanying natural wines. A feast for the senses, where the harmony of food and wine melded into an unforgettable experience.
On the second and final day on Syros, a sunny lunch awaited us at the Ousyra Winery. Here, five exquisite wines, accompanied by regional bites, transported us into the diversity of local flavors. 12. September: Paros
The island of Paros opened the doors to the renowned Moraitis Winery for us, and our afternoon became a journey through the vineyards and the art of winemaking. Under the expert guidance of the winery, we learned the secrets behind every sip, from the grapevine to the noble drop in the glass. Following that, we were enchanted by six local wines, accompanied by artistically crafted snacks. Each drop told a story of Paros, of the soil, the vines, and the winemakers’ passion. A harmonious afternoon that captivated our senses into the world of the viticulture.
13. – 14. September: Santorini
The penultimate evening of our wine journey led us to the enchanting island of Santorini, where the renowned Gavalas Winery welcomed us to a unique wine tasting called “Explore Santorini.” In the midst of picturesque vineyards, we discovered the soul of the island in every glass. Six exquisite wines, accompanied by delicious bites, unfolded a harmonious symphony of the senses. Each drop told the story of Santorini, from the volcanic soil to the Aegean breeze. The crowning finale of our wine journey through Greece took place at the Santo Wines Winery. Following that, we were invited to an unforgettable 3-course meal expertly paired with the winery’s exquisite wines. Under the warm light of the sunset, the flavors and stories of these exceptional drops unfolded. Each sip reminded us of Santorini’s centuries-old wine tradition.
