Klados Winery: A family tradition of winemaking
Klados Winery is a family run business founded in 1997 by Emmanuel Klados. A chemist-oenologist since 1979, Emmanuel Klados brings his extensive experience and passion for viticulture to every glass of Klados wine.
From small beginnings to steady growth
Klados Winery started out in a small building in Rethymnon Municipality with an annual wine production of about 20,000 liters. Over time the production grew steadily and in 2000 the first steps towards bottling were taken with a local wine variety called Vidiano. Klados Winery was one of the first wineries to highlight this special and rare variety.
modernization and sustainability
In 2007 the winery moved to Skepasti – Rethymno in a modern building of 700 square meters and was equipped with state-of-the-art machines for production and bottling. In 2012 the winery improved its energy efficiency by installing photovoltaic panels and since 2013 it has been surrounded by a vineyard where the local white variety Vidiano is grown according to BIO organic standards.
The next generation takes over
In 2014 the business was handed over to the next generation of the family. Stelios, who grew up in the winery, is a graduate of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Crete. He obtained his first master’s degree in oenology and marketing at the University of Piacenza in Italy and then completed his studies with another master’s degree in oenology at the Agricultural University of Athens.
