Historical roots of Farnese Vini
In 1582, Princess Margarethe of Austria purchased the town of Ortona for 52,000 ducats. Fascinated by the clean air and picturesque landscape, she had a large palace built here. Her enthusiasm for the region and her initiative in wine production laid the foundations for the Abruzzo wines that are prized today. The name Farnese, a symbol of recognition for the cultural pioneers, still adorns the fine wines grown in the fertile valleys of the River Moro.
Headquarters in the castle of Caldora
The Farnese Vini Group has its headquarters in the historic castle of Caldora, built in the early Middle Ages. This location underlines the company’s commitment to living up to its rich history and high quality expectations with its products.
Renaissance of the south through quality
Farnese focuses on the production of high-quality wines from indigenous grape varieties, reinterpreting the special features of the southern Italian regions with state-of-the-art technology. The group has eight wineries in Abruzzo, Puglia, Campania, Sicily, Tuscany and Basilicata and produces around one hundred different wines.
Nature and technology hand in hand
The principle “Good wine definitely comes from good grapes” guides the philosophy of the winery. The vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate, significant temperature fluctuations and proximity to the sea and mountains. Vines over a hundred years old bear witness to the quality and history of the company.
Influence and recognition
Farnese, based in Ortona, Abruzzo, celebrated its 480th anniversary in 2018. Farnese wines, recognized early on in Europe and beyond, stand for quality and tradition. The winery has received several awards as “Best Italian Producer” and enjoys an international reputation.
