The philosophy behind Cavalchina
Cavalchina stands for the art of high-quality wine production, which requires attention to detail, intelligence and patience. The winery follows a clear philosophy in which nothing is left to chance.
Three essential factors take center stage: the soil, the vineyard and the vinification. Thanks to many years of experience, Cavalchina is aware that its vines are planted in the best possible soil.
The carefully selected grape varieties, which are adapted to the climatic conditions, produce fewer, but riper and healthier grapes. Hand-picking in several passes guarantees that only the best grapes are processed.
With a combination of ancient knowledge and modern vinification techniques, Cavalchina guarantees the purity of its products – a quality that is confirmed by numerous awards.
Historical roots
The winery, located on the south-eastern edge of the moraine hill amphitheater of Lake Garda, has a long history that is deeply rooted in viticulture. The name could be derived from a residence of Count Cavalchini. The Habsburg cadastre of 1848 already recorded numerous classified vineyards here, underlining the traditional wine-growing culture of the region. The vineyard also played a role in the battles of the First and Second Wars of Independence. The Azienda Agricola Cavalchina was founded at the beginning of the 20th century with the acquisition of the first core vineyards and continued to develop steadily. A historic milestone was the “invention” of Bianco di Custoza in 1962, a wine that was quickly recognized on important markets such as Milan and Rome.
Bianco di Custoza: a pioneering wine
Cavalchina was the first winery to market a wine under the name Bianco di Custoza, made from the Fernanda, Trebbiano and Garganega grape varieties. This innovation quickly established Cavalchina as a leading winery in the region and on important Italian markets.
