The history of Torre d’Orti
The name Torre d’Orti has appeared on topographical maps of San Martino Buonalbergo for centuries and refers to a part of the mountain that overlooks the inhabited center of the Marcellise district.
The lords of the Castello di Montorio once built a watchtower on this ridge, which offered an excellent position to control the movements of enemies.
Later, the locals used this place for various agricultural crops, such as olives, vines and cereals. After being acquired by the Piona family, the estate was planted exclusively with vines to produce high-quality Valpolicella wines.
A soil of special quality
The soil of Torre d’Orti is characterized by a special quality: Here, the typical red soil of the Valpolicella Classico area gradually merges into the characteristic white limestone soil that makes up a large part of the extended Valpolicella.
This combination of soil type and altitude gives the estate’s grapes an important characteristic for the production of storable and well-structured wines: low pH values with corresponding acidity and a balanced ratio of alcohol, tannins and body.
The art of winemaking
The production of high-quality wines requires love, intelligence and patience. At Torre d’Orti, nothing is left to chance and the three essential factors – soil, vineyard and vinification – are always taken into account.
The winery’s decades of experience ensure that the vines are planted in the best possible soil and that only the best grapes are selected for vinification.
The combination of craftsmanship and modern cellar technology ensures the purity of the wines, which is confirmed by numerous awards and accolades.
A commitment to quality
For Torre d’Orti, quality is not just a wish or a slogan, but a reality. The winery’s tireless dedication to producing exquisite wines is reflected in every sip and makes Torre d’Orti synonymous with elegance and tradition in the Valpolicella region.
