Description
Rosé Fokiano
This Rosé, made from the Fokiano grape, comes from organically farmed vineyards on Naxos and is processed on Syros. Its grapes are harvested early and carefully transported in small crates to prevent fruit damage.
The wine matures for five months in stainless steel and displays an attractive pale pink hue, slightly darker than typical Provence rosés. Its aroma is fruity with notes of sour cherries, Victoria plums, and a hint of citrus.
On the palate, it impresses with a rare chewiness and juiciness, light astringency, and floral fruitiness. This robust Rosé remains surprisingly fresh and offers a long, impressive finish. Ideal as a table wine, it promises to impress over a longer period.
OuSyra Winery
The OuSyra Winery, founded four decades ago by Edward Maitland-Makgill-Crichton and Eileen Velissaropoulos on the Greek island of Syros, symbolizes the fusion of tradition and innovation.
The couple, after Edward’s studies in Oxford and an inspiring world tour, returned to Syros and established OuSyra with the goal of creating a winery that emphasizes the principles of sustainability and biodynamic agriculture.
By combining Edward’s global perspectives and Eileen’s deep understanding of local culture, the winery produces high-quality wines that reflect the essence and history of Syros.
Suitable Dishes
In traditional Greek cuisine, the Rosé Fokiano pairs particularly well with seafood in red sauces, which highlights its fruity and slightly astringent notes.
Tarama, a spicy fish roe spread, and Dolmades, stuffed vine leaves, also complement the fresh and spicy nature of the wine excellently.
