Winery Hungermüller – Wine from Rheinhessen
Hungermüller winery consists of Heike and Ralf, 2 winemaker children who bring their love for wine making into the bottle. Both love to work in nature and in the cellar and to have created a great bottle of wine that brings joy to many people makes the two winemakers proud. Because this way you can show how fantastic your home in Dittelsheim-Heßloch in Rheinhessen is tastes.
In addition to a lot of love, there is also a lot of patience in wines. Because the wines get a lot of time from the winery – fermentation, clarification and maturation. The result is hand-made wines in small additions that reflect the winery -Rheinhessen with the differentiated soils, the passion and courage of the winemakers, the respect for nature and a lot of heart and soul. Just filled with love!
Both winemakers grew up in wineries with vineyards, grapes and wine. Although both initially pursued other career paths, the connection to the topic of wine was always there. Only when Heike and Ralf found each other did the dream of their own wine come true. Heike gives up her job as a business IT specialist and works full-time in the winery – still doing a third vocational training. Ralf continues to work in his job as a computer scientist and supports Heike and his father Werner in his free time in the winery. Heike and Ralf convert the former barrel wine business and start producing bottled wines. In summer 2020 Heike will successfully complete her training as a winemaker at LWG Veitshöchheim. The first official vintage is 2019 (Silvaner 2018) and was bottled in 2020.
The Hungermüller winery uses all resources sparingly. Every vineyard is a complex structure that is treated with care. The winery respects nature and the environment, does not use herbicides and operates environmentally friendly plant protection. Handicraft is the order of the day in the vineyard. Even when planting the small vines, large machines are dispensed with, planting is done by hand. All foliage work on the vine is done by hand: cutting, digging and tie, staple and defoliate. The grape harvest is also hand-picked wherever possible.
Quality is the highest goal for the winemaker. Since only small quantities are put into the bottle, the wines can be processed and handled particularly gently and carefully. That means they are gently pressed, pumped and have a lot of time to sediment and mature. The wines are not filtered until bottling and are all vegan. Since the winery only harvests healthy grapes, processes very small quantities and gives the wines as much time as they need, handmade unique pieces come out that are convincing.
