Winery Kohl: A Tradition of Excellence
Since 1753, Winery Kohl has been a family-owned winery, and since 1975, it has been a winemaking operation with its own estate bottling. Located in Erpolzheim, the winery manages 9 hectares of vineyards, working in harmony with the weather and the vine.
Commitment to Organic Practices
For over 15 years, Weingut Kohl has been operating without the use of herbicides and artificial fertilizers. In the second half of 2019, the winery made the significant decision to convert the entire operation to meet the stringent quality requirements of controlled, organic viticulture. This decision was made out of responsibility towards nature and humanity and to further enhance the quality of their wines. With the 2022 harvest, Winery Kohl harvested its first organic wine grapes. The first varieties of organic wine, vintage 2022, are now bottled and waiting to be discovered by you. The winery is certified according to DE-ÖKO-039.
A Wide Variety of Wines
Winery Kohl’s wine assortment naturally includes the classic, traditional Palatinate varieties such as Riesling, white, gray, and Pinot Noir. However, the winery is also open to trying new or rediscovered varieties. Therefore, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and sweet Muscatel and Gewürztraminer also complement their assortment.
In addition to traditional wine maturation in steel tanks, Weingut Kohl also matures wines in wooden barrels and barriques. The Gold Edition, featuring particularly rich, characterful wines, has recently been added to their range.
Celebrations and Events
Three times a year, Erpolzheim, and thus Weingut Kohl, celebrates grandly! The culinary hike around fruit, asparagus, and wine in May, the traditional Erpolzheimer Weinkerwe in August, and the Erpolzheimer Martinsmarkt in November are well known beyond the region. These festivals and occasional special events are always the best opportunity to get to know Winery Kohl and their wines personally.
Vacation at Winery Kohl
At Winery Kohl, you can also take a vacation. In their lovingly furnished, quiet holiday apartments directly on the Isenach, you will feel comfortable, right next to the vineyards.
Own a Vine
Since 2012, wine lovers have had the opportunity to be a little bit of a winemaker at Winery Kohl! By leasing their own vine in our Pinot Noir guest vineyard in the Herxheimer Honigsack location, vine lessees get an insight into the winemaker’s year and at the end of the year, three bottles of their own lessee wine with a personalized label.
