L.A. Cetto Winery: A Pioneer in Mexican Viticulture
Mexico’s winemaking tradition, older than in any other country on the American continent, is the cornerstone of L.A. Cetto Winery. Founded in 1924 by Italian immigrant Luigi Angelo Cetto in Baja California, the winery bridges the deep history of winemaking since Hernando Cortés in 1524 with modern viticulture.
Unique Cultivation Areas
In the favored wine-growing zones of Baja California, such as Valle de Guadalupe, San Vicente, San Antonio, Santa Rosa, and San Rafael, the grapes of L.A. Cetto thrive. The region’s unique desert climate, with its hot days and cool nights, creates optimal conditions for grape maturation. The winery, where part of the wines age in French oak barrels, was established in 1974 in the Guadalupe Valley, symbolizing the synergy between tradition and innovation.
Wine Quality and Variety of Grapes
L.A. Cetto ensures continuous quality control with a team of renowned wine experts and oenologists. The range of grape varieties includes reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Nebbiolo, as well as whites such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc. This diversity reflects the complexity and richness of the Mexican terroir.
Modern Winery with Tradition
Today, L.A. Cetto spans over 1,100 hectares of vineyards and is one of Mexico’s most significant wine producers. The fusion of centuries-old winemaking tradition and modern cultivation methods makes the winery a distinguished representative of Mexican viticulture, with wines that embody the unique characteristics of their origin.
