Wine accessories
Wine accessories are a dime a dozen, from bottle openers to wine thermometers. In our new blog post, we introduce you to three useful wine accessories.
Corkscrews
When it comes to wine accessories, it starts with the smallest detail – but of course it’s a must: Even with corkscrews, there’s a lot of choice.
The cheapest option here is a very ordinary corkscrew with a handle and screw spindle, without much fuss. This one you get already from about 3€.
More modern and widespread is the waiter’s knife. The waiter’s knife has no ordinary handle, but a lever with which you can pull the cork from the bottle with much less effort. In addition, a waiter’s knife often comes with a small serrated knife to open the cap of the wine. Such a corkscrew is available from about 8€.
To make it even easier, you can also take a wing corkscrew, where you turn the screw spindle with a handle into the cork and then press the two “wings” down. This requires even less force than the waiter’s knife, and wing corkscrews are even available for purchase from about 6€.
Cap cutters
Something else to open the wine bottle, but this wine accessory has nothing to do with the cork. As the name suggests, you can quickly and easily remove the cap cover with the cap cutter. This is especially helpful should you not have a serrated knife on your corkscrew. The cap cutter is simply placed on the bottle top and turned, and the built-in blades cleanly cut through the cap.
The cap cutter saves you the endless fumbling with knives or even your fingers and you can enjoy the wine in no time. This great tool is available in very different designs and price ranges, the lowest price is about 3€.
Caps
To keep the open wine fresh, of course, you need a suitable cap (unless the bottle has a screw cap). Here, too, there are many different options.
The cheapest option is the wine bottle stopper, which is supposed to provide an airtight seal. However, there is a risk here that it will not fit every bottle opening, so may not always be airtight. You can get a wine bottle stopper from about 4€.
Furthermore, there are wine stoppers with silicone inside, which you put on the wine bottle and by pressing on a stopper they become airtight, in addition, the wine bottle becomes leak-proof. These caps are available from about 6€.
Even slightly more expensive and probably better is the vacuum wine pump. Through this wine accessory, the oxygen is pumped out of the wine bottle and the bottle is sealed. Wine pumps cost about 9€.
